Car of the Year 2010: No. 5 Bentley Continental Supersports

Bentley Brutale
Based on the sheer excess of power this Bentley so brilliantly puts to pavement, some might have wagered that it would take top honors. It does everything exceptionally, though any story about the Supersports begins and ends with tales of the massive torque on tap from its twin-turbocharged W-12. One must admire a two-seat GT that tips the scales at nearly 5,000 pounds, hits 204 mph, and burns flex fuel to boot. Never one to sacrifice luxury for lawlessness, the fastest production Bentley will be as pleased to potter around town as to tear up the track. Combining state-of-the-art engineering with world-class handcraftsmanship is something Bentley does better than just about any other carmaker—and something the Supersports does better than any other Bentley. —Robert Ross

Earth Angel, Speed Demon
When manufacturers build environmentally conscious cars, the cars typically sacrifice performance for piety. This is not the case with the Supersports. The 613 hp Supersports is the fastest, most powerful Bentley ever built, but its appetite for speed also comes with a thirst for E85—a blend of ethanol and petroleum fuel. The Supersports has the power of a freight train, and its suspension and all-wheel-drive setup are so finely tuned that the car is a delightful demon through the corners. It may have been built with the best intentions, but it definitely encourages bad behavior. —Paul Meyers
