Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed

Self-driving sybarites will find no paucity of luxury sedans to tempt them. Each of these cars offers some degree of sporting behavior and demonstrates that being ensconced and being entertained are not mutually exclusive driving experiences. But no sedan flashes luxury on the inside as unabashedly as the new $198,500 Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed (www.bentleymotors.com). The vehicle’s interior provides limousine-level luxury, while its performance is nearly identical to that of its two-door rocket-ship sibling, the Continental GT. The novel 6-?liter, twin-turbocharged W-12 engine develops 600 hp—good for 200 mph—though heaven knows that all remains calm inside the vehicle’s cabin, which is awash in quilted leather, wood, wool, and turned aluminum. Like Fantasia’s dancing hippos, the 5,300-pound-plus Flying Spur is amazingly light and agile, its handling abetted by continuous all-wheel drive and a sport suspension specially developed for the Speed.
