Dolby demonstrated what is literally a new dimension in sound: height. The company’s new Pro Logic IIz technology adds two extra speakers mounted above the existing left and right speakers in a surround-sound system. Although it will likely be several months before products using Pro Logic IIz are available, the technology is already starting to earn raves for the realism it adds. Onkyo says it will offer Pro Logic IIz in one of its top-of-the-line receivers later this year, and other manufacturers are reportedly following Onkyo’s lead.
