FrontRunners: Regal Robes

William Kissel

After Savile Row loungewear maker Derek Rose (available through Nap Inc., 212.481.5000, www.derek-rose.com) acquired the late Duke of Windsor Edward VIII’s well-worn crimson and navy dressing gown at a Sotheby’s auction in 1998, the designer introduced a limited edition interpretation of the item with a silk tassel tie. This year, Rose launched a full line of pajamas and robes fabricated in the same vein with the designer’s exclusive materials and patterns—including regimental stripes on heavy silk, herringbones woven in cashmere, and shadow stripes spun on brushed silk. Crowning the collection is a $4,000 silk-lined robe made from camel-colored, worsted spun cashmere.
