FrontRunners: Select Smoke

MONTECRISTO SERIE VII
If you enjoy the mild Dominican Montecristo but want a more rugged smoke, consider the Montecristo Serie VII. The stronger, more forward taste is produced by the wrapper, a Cuban seed called Habana 2000 that was grown in Mexico’s lush San Andreas mountains. The original Dominican Montecristo wrapper is a characteristically milder Connecticut-grown leaf. In addition to a filler blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos, the Serie VII also features a dose of Peruvian leaf that adds an element of spice. Each of the potent (52 x 71/2) cigars is presented in a wooden coffer, and seven singles come packaged in a cedar box. To enjoy the full effects of the cedar, remove the cellophane before storing the cigars. ($20) www.altadisusa.com
