The one word that sums up better than any other the Hublot’s core creative philosophy is fusion. Since its founding, Hublot has been known for fusing and combining materials that don’t ordinarily go together, like ceramic and carbon fiber or titanium and Cermet, the hardest manmade material in the world, or gold with the company’s signature material, natural rubber.
The fusing of unlike materials began in 1980 when company founder Carlo Crocco caused a stir with his first Hublot watch by fitting a gold watch with a natural rubber strap. This was a first in the history of watch making, and became the inspiration for a company and a style of watch design unlike any other.
Members of royal families were immediately enthusiastic about Hublot and the watches were soon emulated and worn by numerous celebrities the world over. Carlo Crocco had taken a gamble, but in just a few years, Hublot watches soon joined the elite of the leading watch making brands.
The first watch’s porthole-shaped case combined polished and brushed metal, the minimalist black dial, and the distinctive black natural-rubber strap that came to symbolize the Hublot watch. Three years of research were necessary to create the unique strap and to demonstrate the exceptional properties of natural rubber.
Processed according to a formula exclusive to Hublot, two strands make up the incomparably supple and light strap and adapt instantly to any wrist delicately and snugly embracing its curves and offering everyone a degree of comfort unique in its kind. The strap, which is accentuated by steel reinforcing strips incorporated at both ends, seems to become regenerated by daily contact with the skin without tearing or becoming tarnished.
Both of the two strands making up the strap, some of them delicately perfumed with a delicate vanilla-scented fragrance, bear the inscription of its length and the reference of the model for which it is designed, a guarantee of exclusivity for a strap whose restrained elegance is the key to its great refinement.
In addition to the trademark strap, every element of a Hublot watch benefits from an incomparable creativity and attention to detail.
No less than160 manual operations, executed with the greatest care combined with a complete mastery of the most modern technologies, are required to produce the Hublot watchcase. It is the perfect integration of all the units involved and the matchless quality of the finish that makes a Hublot watchcase one of the top references as regards elegance and reliability.
On Hublot’s Big Bang collection, the bezel is fixed by means of 12 or 6 polished titanium screws with an H design. The attachments of the case will not tolerate the slightest error and must be perfected to the nearest hundredth of a millimeter.
The now famous Hublot clasp is the result of a well-balanced blend of high technical skill and know how, and this is the reason behind its perfect reliability, avoiding the need for any other locking system.
Carlo Crocco’s ingenuity and break with tradition in choosing rubber for his watch’s strap is a perfect embodiment of the philosophy, lifestyle and brand image Hublot honors to this day. Hublot remains one of the last, independent, family-run watch making businesses offering a unique single-product concept.
Unbounded creative freedom enables Hublot to preserve its unique personality and to widen its range with an impressive array of collections, some featuring specific complications, and some available only in limited editions.
