Robb Report Editors Name Luxury World's Most Exclusive Brands Of All Time

Selections Highlight Collector’s Edition 30th-Anniversary Issue.

MALIBU, CA –  To commemorate the publication’s 30th anniversary, the editors of Robb Report magazine, joined by a team of international experts and personalities, have named the most innovative and exclusive brands in the modern luxury world.

Unveiled in Robb Report’s 402-page January issue, as well as in a specially designed hardbound collector’s edition, these selections “recognize the unique brands and people who have continually defined and redefined luxury—not only during the past 30 years, but over the past several centuries,” states Brett Anderson, Senior Vice President, Editorial.

“This one-of-a-kind issue takes readers on a fascinating, fact-filled journey through history, exploring the personalities, designs, back stories, and inspirations that make up the best brands ever imagined,” Mr. Anderson explains.  “This visually rich collector’s edition features extended profiles of the world’s greatest luxuries, past and present, complete with in-depth commentary from industry luminaries, international personalities, collectors, and renowned experts. “

A virtual who’s who of preeminent writers and luxury industry dignitaries, this roster of contributors includes acclaimed film critic and home theater aficionado Roger Ebert; author and fine art expert Barbara Guggenheim; law firm CEO and motorcycle museum proprietor Herb Harris; former publishing house editor-in-chief and watch collector Michael Korda; novelist and fashion plate Jay McInerney; recent Automotive Hall of Fame inductee and superyacht owner Jim Moran; restaurateur and cigar devotee Charlie Palmer; horological auction house chairman Osvaldo Patrizzi; venture capitalist and sailing yacht owner Tom Perkins; author, television host, and sommelier Andrea Robinson; and Jeffrey Post, curator of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Gem and Mineral Collection.

“Because most of the brands we included in this issue have had their histories chronicled innumerable times in books and in other publications, we wanted to avoid offering a collection of chronological accounts,” said Robb Report Editor Larry Bean. “Instead, we wanted to highlight some of each company’s most compelling and, in some cases, overlooked aspects—past and present—and we wanted to give our readers a chance to hear from individuals who could offer their unique and salient perspectives on these companies.” 

January’s 30th-anniversary issue also spotlights significant milestones in the luxury market, with a retrospective account that begins in 1976 with the launch of Robb Report, a publication initially devoted to advertisements for new and vintage Rolls-Royces.

Presented in a year-by-year format, this time line recalls influential events such as the Paris wine tasting of 1976 that established Napa Valley as a source of world-class wines, the rebirth of the Swiss mechanical watch industry in 1983, the 1986 introduction of fractional aircraft ownership, the 1992 introduction of the cigar that ignited that decade’s cigar boom, Thomas Keller’s acquisition of the French Laundry restaurant in 1994, the beginning of space tourism in 2001, and the launch of the colossal Queen Mary 2 in 2004.
