A small fishing community just outside of Los Cabos, Mexico, is vying to become the next great getaway. La Capilla, located on the east cape of the Baja Peninsula, is a private resort community near the town of Los Barriles that is currently accepting deposits for its first phase of homesites, which is expected to be completed this winter.
Developer Russ Davidson, of the Davidson and Jones development group, says that the community has everything second-home owners would want--private oceanfront property in an area long known for its sport fishing along the Sea of Cortez--without any of the “touristy feel” of larger Mexican resorts.
“La Capilla stands apart from other resort communities in Mexico because of its authenticity and accessibility,” Davidson says. This is especially true of the resort’s location, a small fishing community once favored as a vacation spot for stars like John Wayne and Bing Crosby. The private resort will be the first of its kind in the area, which thrills Davidson. “This way we can maintain the area’s character,” he says. Two options will be available to home owners: Buyers can either purchase finished homesites or develop and design their own floor plan. The first phase of homes will include only the finished homesites, while later phases will include the made-to-order homes, a beach club, spa, and eventually a system of walking trails throughout the property. La Capilla will also feature a casual restaurant and poolside bar, and while there are no plans to build a golf course or private marina, both are located within minutes of the resort.
