BMW 550i Gran Turismo

BMW would like you to forget what you think you know about the term Gran Turismo. A low-slung, sporty car—likely tailored in Italy—with room for two plus luggage does not come close to defining the 2010 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. Tipping the scales at nearly 5,000 pounds, the V-8-engined 550i Gran Turismo model is in the heavyweight category of premium automobiles. Unfortunately its size compromises BMW’s usual sporty disposition, but it does provide great advantages for interior space. Getting into the rear seats—which offer fully adjustable comfort settings and an optional center console control center in lieu of a middle seat—it doesn’t take long to realize that the 550i GT shares much of its space frame with standard-wheelbase 7 Series. And while the 550i GT may not be the brand’s first foray into the realm of avant-garde automaking, it is certainly the most peculiar. Consider the Gran Turismo a 7 Series sedan moonlighting as 5 Series hatchback wagon?what more could you possibly want? Pros: A little something for everyone. Cons: It's big, really big.
