Hotel Palazzo Sasso

Built in the 12th century, this former villa overlooking the Mediterranean opened as a hotel in 1997. The estate’s structures are a blend of medieval, Baroque, and Arabian architecture, with handmade Vietri tiles, marble floors, and stained-glass windows. The Palazzo recently added a small spa with a Turkish steam bath, where arched doorways open to terraces with views of the sea 1,000 feet below. Accommodations Most of the 32 rooms and 11 suites have sea views, the best of which are from the top floor’s Infinito Suite. Recreation Charter a boat or helicopter to nearby Pompeii or the isle of Capri or simply walk the streets of Ravello to see ruins, villa gardens, and ceramics workshops. Dining Rossellini’s, the resort’s Michelin-two-star restaurant, is open for dinner only, while Caffé dell’Arte and Terrazza Belvedere offer light fare (and spectacular sea views) throughout the day. Worthy Diversion Follow the ancient stone steps from the resort into the center of Ravello, where you can search for ceramics and limoncello, the region’s Specialty liqueur. Rooms in high season from $420, suites from $1,120. The hotel and restaurants are closed from November to March.
