Set on a high pass above the ocean in Big Sur, California, the Post Ranch Inn taps into the natural mysticism of its surroundings with weekly programs of yoga, stargazing, art tours, and nature walks. Five of the inn’s 30 Accommodations are recessed into the side of a ridge and have sloping roofs upholstered in native grass and wildflowers. Seven others (called tree houses) stand tiptoe on nine-foot-tall stilts, because a slab-concrete foundation would destroy the delicate tree roots below.
