Sneak Peek: Casa Gangotena

Amanda Millin

After four years and about $10 million of renovations, the Ecuadoran mansion Casa Gangotena reopened on September 1. Located in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Quito, whose history dates to the Incas, the boutique hotel has 33 rooms and suites ranging from $425 to $550 per night. Its place in the popular Plaza San Francisco puts guests steps away from the gilt Jesuit church of La Compañia de Jesús and the marked Center of the World where the equator divides the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The three-story Renaissance-inspired structure, originally built as a home in 1534, combines neoclassical elements with modern custom-made furniture, and its rooftop terrace offers wrap-around views of Quito’s Old Town.
