Lauren Adriana Unveils Her London Jewelry Atelier

Tanya Dukes

No one can accuse Lauren Adriana of suffering from an identity crisis:  “Being a jeweler is all I’ve ever wanted to do,” the 27-year-old asserts. She has accomplished as much in pretty impressive fashion during the five years since she graduated from London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins, where her graduation collection was a sellout success. Her new Notting Hill boutique is just as striking as the avant-garde jewelry it houses—oversized pieces that combine colorful gemstones and precious metals plus unusual materials like bronze and aluminum. While Adriana’s grandfather is the best-selling fashion designer Paul Smith, she sees the “slower, more considered experience of commissioning an artist” as a greater influence on her work than the world of fashion. Dotted with lighting by Serge Mouille and conceptual furnishings from Willy Rizzo, Milo Baughman, and Paolo Pallucco, and centered around a room upholstered in vivid blue Alcantara that Adriana describes as “very Halston,” the new space is a unique shopping destination in London. Like Adriana’s designs, the approach to display is highly considered, with a single item in each vitrine. “We needed to do something special to give each piece the grandeur it deserves,” she says. Prices start at about $7,000, for Aperture earrings in gold, aluminum, and aquamarine, and run to more than $40,000 for a one-of-a-kind pair of Siren earrings in gold, silver, amethyst, rhodolite, and diamonds.
