Sneak Peek: Point Yamu by Como, Phuket, Thailand

Jennifer Ashton Ryan

Bali’s renowned Como Shambala spa experience arrives in Phuket, Thailand, via the new Point Yamu by Como resort.

Why Go: Overlooking Thailand’s turquoise Andaman Sea and Phang Nga Bay, the Singapore-based Como Group has secured a striking site on the tip of the private Cape Yamu peninsula. Home to two residential communities plus Point Yamu, the remote spot sits 30 minutes by car north of Phuket City. A highlight of the 109-room resort is the Como Shambala wellness retreat, employing top yoga teachers, nutritionists, and specialists in bodywork and ayurveda. Services include the latest holistic practices for intuitive, results-driven care.

What to Expect: Italian designer Paola Navone’s interiors favor simple wooden furnishings and bright solid fabrics. The aesthetic comes across as unusually simple for a luxury hotel (dare we say Ikea?), though the spacious layouts of the resorts’ larger suites and 27 villas look more comfortable. Two restaurants, one Italian and one Thai, hold guests over between meals out among Phuket’s wealth of dining options. The main infinity-edge pool overlooks the ocean, and an activities center can arrange snorkel and canoe trips, diving excursions, and visits to Phang Nga Bay’s famous coves and beaches.

How to Get There: International travelers typically fly in through Bangkok, which is 90 minutes by plane from Phuket. Point Yamu is another 30 minutes by car from the Phuket airport. (+66.2.625.3322, www.comohotels.com)
